Garden Vibes Candles
Project Overview
To create a candle line that captures snapshots in time, inspired by our connection to nature using dream-like, atmostpheric imagery. As a result, the packaging takes on a surrealistic quality that invites intrigue and connection.

Development
A wide net was cast during the initial design exploration of this project. By first building out a comprehensive moodboard and identifying key mind-mapping words, I was able to hone onto an overall atmospheric, ethereal-like direction for the design.
Moodboarding and Art Direction
Showcase a variety of options that evoke an almost otherworldly feeling
Consider options that showcase the scent/seed imagery vs. abstract interpretations
Interested in the idea of transitions and how to capture times of the day
Enjoy the idea of cleaner, more reserved typography so that the background can shine
The first round of design is used for going WIDE - for taking a concept, moodboard and direction and probing at it’s edges to try a lot of things.
For this project, I leaned into using photography as the base of the design, but played the improv actor of “yes and-ing” to see how I could push the design into different directions.
What if the photo was monochromatic? What if it was blown up so big that it became abstract and highly textural? What if there was no flower imagery and focused more on putting the customer at a specific time of day that they could burn the candle and evoke a certain feeling?
All this and more went into this first round of development.

Refinement & Expansion
A single design in a silo can look great, but when you are working with full product lines, it’s important to test the theory of the initial design. Seeing how a product line can expand is important to ensure that it functions as a system.
